5-Hour Energy

A standard 5-Hour Energy shot contains about 200mg of caffeine in a tiny 2oz serving. It also has a high-dose B-vitamin blend with amounts far exceeding daily recommendations. While the caffeine alone is manageable if you're careful, the concentrated additive load makes this a less-than-ideal choice.

Use with caution; 1 shot = 200mg caffeine; very high B-vitamin doses are an additional concern
The 200mg caffeine in a 5-Hour Energy shot is a significant dose in a small package. It also contains 8333% of daily B12 and 2000% of daily B6, along with taurine and tyrosine. While B12 is water-soluble and excess is generally excreted, very high B6 has been associated with decreased milk supply in some older reports (though evidence is limited). The combination of unknowns makes a plain coffee or tea a much safer bet for energy.
