NyQuil

NyQuil contains multiple active ingredients including alcohol and often antihistamines — not ideal for breastfeeding. It's better to treat each symptom separately with single-ingredient products.

NyQuil typically contains acetaminophen (safe), dextromethorphan (safe), and doxylamine (a sedating antihistamine that may cause infant drowsiness and may reduce milk supply). NyQuil also contains about 10% alcohol. Multi-symptom products make it hard to control what you're exposing your baby to. Treat symptoms individually: acetaminophen for fever/pain, dextromethorphan alone for cough, saline for congestion.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
