Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Acetaminophen is the go-to pain reliever during breastfeeding. It's one of the most studied and consistently recommended OTC medications for nursing moms.
Maximum 4000mg per day (3000mg if liver concerns)
Very small amounts pass into breast milk — well below therapeutic doses for infants. Extensively studied; considered a first-line analgesic during breastfeeding by the AAP, WHO, and Infant Risk Center. Use at recommended adult doses. Avoid exceeding 4000mg/day (less if you drink alcohol or have liver issues).
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
