CBD Oil (Recreational / Wellness)

The FDA advises against CBD oil use during breastfeeding. Unregulated products may contain THC, and CBD's effects on breastfed infants are unknown. Avoid while nursing.

CBD oil is widely marketed for anxiety, sleep, and pain. Despite its popularity, the FDA has not approved any CBD products for use during breastfeeding. Many products labeled 'THC-free' contain detectable THC due to limited regulatory oversight. THC is fat-soluble and accumulates in breast milk. CBD itself has unknown effects on the developing infant nervous system. The FDA, AAP, and LactMed all advise avoiding CBD during breastfeeding.
