L-Theanine

L-theanine is a calming amino acid found in green tea. There's no specific safety data for breastfeeding women — most sources recommend caution due to lack of studies.

L-theanine promotes calm focus and is considered very safe for healthy adults. However, formal safety data during lactation is absent. LactMed has no entry. Given unknown transfer into breast milk and effects on infants, most conservative guidelines would recommend caution. The amounts naturally found in green tea (much lower than supplements) are generally considered acceptable.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
