Aspirin

Aspirin at full doses is not recommended for pain relief during breastfeeding. Low-dose aspirin (81mg) as prescribed for cardiovascular or clotting conditions is acceptable.

Full-dose aspirin (325–650mg) transfers salicylate into breast milk and has been associated with Reye's syndrome risk in infants with viral illness. Most authorities recommend using acetaminophen or ibuprofen instead for routine pain relief. Low-dose (81mg) baby aspirin as prescribed by a provider for cardiovascular or obstetric indications is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
