White Wine

White wine follows the same guidelines as red wine — it's fine occasionally if you time it right. Have a glass after a feeding and wait at least 2 hours before the next one. One drink, good timing, no stress.

1 standard drink (5oz at ~12% ABV); wait 2+ hours before nursing

Myth: You need to pump and dump after drinking alcohol. This is false — only time clears alcohol from milk.

The alcohol in white wine behaves identically to any other alcoholic drink in terms of how it enters and clears from breast milk. A 5oz glass of white wine at 12% ABV is one standard drink and takes roughly 2 hours to metabolize. Sparkling wines and higher-ABV whites may have slightly more alcohol per pour, so check the label. Occasional moderate consumption following timing guidelines is consistent with AAP recommendations.
