Wheat / Gluten

Wheat and gluten are safe while breastfeeding for most moms. Unless your baby has been diagnosed with celiac disease or a wheat allergy, there's no need to go gluten-free.

Some moms worry that gluten might cause digestive issues in their baby through breast milk. For most infants, this isn't a concern. Celiac disease requires gluten exposure through solid foods to manifest — it isn't triggered by breast milk. If your baby shows signs of food protein intolerance (blood in stool, severe eczema, persistent GI distress), talk to your pediatrician about next steps.
