Weight Loss Tea

Weight loss teas are not safe while breastfeeding. These products frequently contain stimulant laxatives, diuretics, high-dose caffeine, and other compounds that can pass into your milk and affect your baby — and they're poorly regulated.

Like detox teas, weight loss teas are largely unregulated by the FDA and often contain a mix of senna, cascara, diuretic herbs, high-dose caffeine, ephedra derivatives, and other compounds with unknown safety profiles in lactation. Laxative herbs in these products can cause diarrhea, colic, and discomfort in breastfed infants. Additionally, aggressive caloric restriction or weight loss approaches during breastfeeding can reduce milk supply and nutritional quality. There is no benefit that outweighs these risks. Avoid entirely.
