Vodka
Vodka is a distilled spirit at typically 40% ABV — one standard drink is just 1.5oz. The guidelines are the same as for wine or beer: one drink, 2-hour wait before nursing. The type of alcohol doesn't matter; only the total amount and time do.
1 standard drink (1.5oz at 40% ABV); wait 2+ hours before nursing; mixed drinks may contain multiple standard drinks
Myth: You need to pump and dump after drinking alcohol. This is false — only time clears alcohol from milk.
At 40% ABV, a standard drink of vodka is a 1.5oz shot — small by volume but equivalent in alcohol to a 12oz beer or 5oz glass of wine. Mixed drinks and cocktails often contain more than one shot, so be aware of what you're consuming. Vodka doesn't contain congeners (byproducts of fermentation), which some believe reduces hangover symptoms, but this has no bearing on how it transfers to or clears from breast milk.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
