Vaping (E-Cigarettes)
Vaping exposes your baby to nicotine through breast milk, similar to cigarettes. Vaping is less harmful than cigarette smoking for secondhand exposure, but it's not safe. Breastfeeding is still recommended over formula if you vape.
📉Nicotine suppresses prolactin and may reduce milk supply.
Nicotine from vaping transfers into breast milk similarly to cigarettes. Vaping eliminates combustion-related toxins and reduces secondhand smoke exposure, but the nicotine exposure through milk remains a concern. Like cigarettes, reducing use, vaping after nursing, and nursing before next vaping session reduces infant exposure. If you vape for smoking cessation, you're still exposing your baby to nicotine — nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum) is safer.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
