Throat Lozenges

Throat lozenges are safe during breastfeeding. Most contain local anesthetics (benzocaine) or menthol in amounts too small to affect breast milk.

Throat lozenges like Halls (menthol) and Cepacol (benzocaine) are safe in normal use. The amounts absorbed systemically are negligible. Benzocaine is minimally absorbed orally. Menthol in a lozenge is far below the amount that would affect milk supply (unlike concentrated peppermint oil). Sugar-free versions are better for dental health.
