Swordfish

Swordfish is on the FDA's 'avoid' list for breastfeeding moms. It's one of the highest-mercury fish available and the mercury does transfer to your breast milk.

Swordfish is a large, long-lived predatory fish that accumulates very high levels of methylmercury through a process called biomagnification. Mercury passes into breast milk and can affect your baby's developing nervous system. The FDA specifically lists swordfish as a fish to avoid while breastfeeding. There are plenty of delicious, safe fish โ€” salmon, trout, and sardines are great substitutes.
