Stool Softener (Colace)

Colace (docusate sodium) is safe during breastfeeding. Stool softeners are often needed postpartum and have minimal systemic absorption.

Docusate sodium is a surfactant stool softener that works locally in the GI tract. It's minimally absorbed, and amounts reaching breast milk are negligible. It's a standard recommendation for postpartum constipation, especially after cesarean or narcotic pain medication. Safe and gentle for regular postpartum use.
