Sesame

Sesame is safe while breastfeeding. It's now recognized as a major allergen in the US, but that doesn't mean nursing moms need to avoid it — only babies with a diagnosed allergy require dietary changes.

The FDA added sesame as the 9th major food allergen in 2023. For breastfeeding moms, the guidance remains the same as other allergens — no need to avoid it unless your baby has been diagnosed with a sesame allergy. Tahini, sesame seeds, and sesame oil are all nutritious additions to your diet and can be enjoyed freely.
