Progestin-Only Pill (Mini-Pill)
The progestin-only pill (mini-pill) is the preferred oral contraceptive during breastfeeding. It doesn't contain estrogen and is not associated with reduced milk supply. Consult your healthcare provider.
Progestin-only pills (norethindrone, norgestrel) are considered the contraceptive pill of choice during breastfeeding. Unlike combined pills, they don't contain estrogen, which is the component that can suppress milk supply. Progestins pass into breast milk in tiny amounts with no documented adverse effects on infants. They must be taken at the same time each day (+/- 3 hours) to remain effective.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
