Plan B (Levonorgestrel)

Plan B (emergency contraception) is safe during breastfeeding. It's a high-dose progestin that won't harm your baby and doesn't significantly impact milk supply. Consult your healthcare provider.

Plan B contains levonorgestrel, a progestin. Progestins are considered safe during breastfeeding. The high single dose may cause a temporary, minor change in milk taste or composition for 8–24 hours. Some providers suggest nursing just before taking Plan B and pumping and discarding milk for the next 8 hours as an extra precaution, though this is not required. It does not disrupt an established pregnancy.
