Organ Meats / Liver
Liver and other organ meats are safe and incredibly nutrient-dense while breastfeeding! Beef liver in particular is one of the most concentrated sources of iron, B12, folate, and vitamin A available.
1-2 servings per week is ideal; avoid daily consumption due to high vitamin A
Liver is a nutritional powerhouse — a single serving of beef liver provides extraordinary amounts of vitamin B12, folate, iron, zinc, copper, and vitamin A. The vitamin A content is worth noting: a 3oz serving can contain several times the daily recommended amount. Eating liver 1-2 times per week is a safe, beneficial practice. Eating it daily or in very large amounts is not recommended due to vitamin A accumulation, but moderate consumption is excellent for postpartum recovery.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
