Omeprazole (Prilosec)

Omeprazole (Prilosec) is safe during breastfeeding. It's a proton pump inhibitor for more persistent acid reflux and transfers minimally into breast milk.

Omeprazole is highly protein-bound and extensively metabolized, with very little reaching breast milk. It's considered compatible with breastfeeding by the Infant Risk Center and LactMed. It's most effective taken 30–60 minutes before eating. For occasional heartburn, Tums or famotidine are simpler first-line options.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
