Cooked nigiri — like shrimp, eel (unagi), crab, or tamago (egg) — is completely safe while breastfeeding. These are some of the safest and most flavorful sushi options available.
Cooked nigiri options include ebi (cooked shrimp), unagi (grilled freshwater eel), anago (salt water eel), tamago (sweet egg omelet), and ika (squid, often cooked). All are low in mercury and fully cooked. Unagi is particularly rich and flavorful and has the added benefit of being a good source of vitamin A and protein.
