Nicotine Gum
Nicotine gum is a safer alternative to cigarettes for breastfeeding moms. Nicotine still passes into milk, but without combustion toxins. Nurse just before using a piece to minimize baby's exposure timing.
📉Nicotine suppresses prolactin and milk supply; time use after nursing to reduce infant exposure.
Nicotine gum delivers nicotine through the oral mucosa. Breast milk nicotine levels peak within 30–60 minutes of use. Timing gum use after nursing reduces infant exposure. Nicotine gum is intermittent-use (unlike patches), which creates peaks and troughs in milk nicotine levels. Both gum and patches are far safer than continued smoking. Use the lowest effective dose and work toward cessation.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
