Topical Pain Relief Sprays / Lidocaine
Topical pain relief products (Biofreeze, lidocaine spray, Salonpas patches) are safe during breastfeeding. Topical application results in minimal systemic absorption.
Topical analgesics including menthol-based products (Biofreeze, Icy Hot, BenGay), lidocaine sprays (Dermoplast), and diclofenac patches (Voltaren) have low systemic absorption when applied to intact skin and used as directed. Dermoplast (benzocaine/menthol spray) is commonly given in postpartum hospital kits for perineal care. Safe during breastfeeding. Avoid applying near the breast or nipple area.
