MCT Oil

MCT oil is generally safe in moderate amounts while breastfeeding, but high doses can cause GI distress (nausea, cramps, diarrhea) in the mother. Start small if you want to use it.

Start with 1 teaspoon; large doses can cause GI distress
MCT oil is a concentrated source of medium-chain triglycerides derived from coconut or palm kernel oil. It's used in ketogenic diets and as a quick energy source. While the MCTs themselves are safe and are found naturally in breast milk, supplemental MCT oil in large doses commonly causes GI upset. There's limited specific research on breastfeeding. Start with a teaspoon and increase slowly if tolerated.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
