Matcha (Food Form)

Matcha is safe in moderate amounts while breastfeeding, but it contains more caffeine than regular green tea — about 70mg per cup. Count it toward your daily 300mg caffeine limit.

1-2 servings per day; count caffeine (35-70mg per cup) toward 300mg daily limit
Matcha is finely ground whole green tea leaves, making it more concentrated in caffeine and L-theanine than steeped tea. A traditional matcha (1g powder) contains roughly 35-70mg of caffeine. Unlike coffee, the L-theanine in matcha provides a calm, focused energy. At moderate amounts, it's a reasonable choice. Factor the caffeine into your total daily intake alongside any other sources.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
