Loratadine (Claritin)

Loratadine (Claritin) is the preferred antihistamine during breastfeeding. It's non-sedating, transfers minimally into breast milk, and has a good safety track record.

Loratadine is a second-generation antihistamine with low milk transfer and no sedation at recommended doses. The AAP considers it compatible with breastfeeding. It's the preferred antihistamine in most breastfeeding references. Monitor for reduced milk supply, as with all antihistamines — though this is less common with loratadine.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
