Laser Treatment (Skin)

Most laser skin treatments — including laser hair removal, IPL, and laser resurfacing — are not considered dangerous while breastfeeding because they work on the skin surface and don't involve chemical absorption. However, evidence is very limited and most providers recommend waiting until after breastfeeding. Laser treatments over the breast area should be avoided.

Laser treatments are largely mechanical and optical — they don't introduce chemicals into your body. The main concerns are: (1) some numbing creams used pre-treatment (like EMLA) contain lidocaine and prilocaine that are absorbed systemically, and (2) laser near the breast area. Topical anesthetics for laser procedures should be discussed with your provider, as prilocaine in particular warrants caution.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
