Laser Skin Treatments

Laser skin treatments — including laser hair removal, IPL (intense pulsed light), and most cosmetic laser procedures — are safe while breastfeeding. The laser energy affects only the targeted skin area and does not produce any substances that could enter your bloodstream or breast milk. Avoid treating the breast or areola area directly.

Laser and IPL treatments work by delivering focused light energy to the skin, targeting pigment (melanin) or blood vessels. No chemicals are introduced into the body, and the treatment does not affect breast milk. The one caveat: hormonal changes during breastfeeding can make your skin more sensitive and may affect results (especially for laser hair removal, since hormones influence hair growth). Some providers prefer to wait until after breastfeeding for optimal cosmetic results, but this is an efficacy concern, not a safety one.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
