Juice Cleanse / Juice Fasting
Juice cleanses should be avoided while breastfeeding. They provide inadequate calories, protein, and fat — all critical for milk production. A juice cleanse can quickly deplete your energy reserves and reduce your milk supply. Your body doesn't need to 'detox' — your liver and kidneys handle that.
📉Severe caloric restriction from juice fasting will reduce milk supply.
Juice cleanses typically provide only 800–1200 calories per day, well below the minimum 1800 calories recommended for breastfeeding mothers. They are severely deficient in protein and fat, both essential for breast milk production and composition. Additionally, rapid weight loss from extreme caloric restriction can mobilize fat-stored toxins (like environmental pollutants) into your bloodstream and breast milk. The concept of 'detoxing' has no scientific basis — your body continuously detoxifies through the liver and kidneys.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
