Iron Supplement
Iron supplements are safe during breastfeeding and often necessary after the blood loss of delivery. Low iron in mom can reduce energy and potentially milk supply.
Maternal iron supplementation does not significantly increase iron in breast milk (breast milk iron is tightly regulated), but it's important for maternal recovery and energy. Iron deficiency is common postpartum. Supplement form and dose depend on your lab values — ferrous sulfate is standard but ferrous gluconate or bisglycinate may cause less GI upset. Take with vitamin C for better absorption.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
