Iodine Supplement

Iodine is critical for your baby's thyroid function and brain development. Many prenatal vitamins don't contain enough — check yours and consider a separate supplement.

Breastfeeding women need 290mcg iodine/day, and breast milk iodine directly depends on maternal intake. Iodine deficiency is the most common preventable cause of brain damage worldwide. Many prenatal vitamins contain 0–150mcg — check your label. Seafood and dairy are the main dietary sources. Kelp-based iodine can vary widely in dose and is not recommended as a controlled source.
