Imodium (Loperamide)
Imodium (loperamide) is safe during breastfeeding. It's poorly absorbed and very little reaches breast milk, making it a good option for diarrhea relief.
Loperamide is poorly absorbed from the GI tract and does not cross the blood-brain barrier effectively. Breast milk levels are very low. No adverse infant effects have been documented. The Infant Risk Center classifies it as compatible with breastfeeding. Use at recommended doses for the shortest time necessary.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
