Hydroxyzine is a sedating antihistamine with anxiolytic properties. Like diphenhydramine (Benadryl), it can cause infant drowsiness through breast milk and may reduce milk supply. For acute situational anxiety, occasional use may be acceptable. For ongoing anxiety treatment, an SSRI is a better long-term option. Monitor your infant for unusual sedation.
