Folic Acid

Folic acid (folate) is safe and beneficial during breastfeeding. It supports mom's and baby's cellular health and is typically included in prenatal vitamins.

Folic acid is important during breastfeeding to replenish stores used during pregnancy. The recommended amount is 500mcg/day during breastfeeding. It's safe and low-risk. Those with MTHFR gene variants may do better with methylfolate (the active form). Usually adequately covered by continuing a prenatal vitamin.
