Flaxseed
Flaxseed is safe and nutritious while breastfeeding! Ground flaxseed is one of the best plant sources of ALA omega-3s and lignans, which are beneficial phytoestrogens.
Ground flaxseed (not whole, which passes through undigested) provides ALA omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens, which occasionally raises questions about breastfeeding safety, but research and LactMed indicate that culinary amounts are considered safe. Some sources note it may have a mild galactagogue effect. A tablespoon or two a day added to smoothies or oatmeal is a great nutritional strategy.
