Fenugreek
Fenugreek is the most widely used herbal galactagogue and many moms report supply boosts. Evidence is mixed, and it can cause GI side effects and maple-syrup-scented sweat and urine.
📈Traditionally used to boost supply. Evidence is inconsistent — some moms see results within 24–72 hours, others see none.
Some small studies show fenugreek increases milk output; others show no benefit over placebo. Common side effects include GI upset, maple-syrup odor in sweat and urine (and baby's), and potential blood sugar lowering. Avoid if you have a thyroid condition or diabetes without provider guidance. Not recommended during the first weeks postpartum without lactation consultant input.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
