Famotidine (Pepcid)

Pepcid (famotidine) is safe during breastfeeding and is the preferred H2 blocker for nursing moms. It transfers minimally into breast milk.

Famotidine is an H2 receptor antagonist that reduces stomach acid production. It passes into breast milk in very small amounts. The Infant Risk Center classifies it as a preferred option for heartburn during breastfeeding. Cimetidine (another H2 blocker) is less preferred because it has anti-androgenic effects and higher milk transfer — choose famotidine instead.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
