Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Eucalyptus essential oil must not be used around infants or young children. The 1,8-cineole compound in eucalyptus can cause respiratory depression and seizures in babies — even from diffused or topical application on nearby skin.
Eucalyptus oil contains 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), which has been directly linked to respiratory distress and neurological effects in infants and young children. Cases of serious harm have been documented after eucalyptus was applied to a parent's chest and the infant inhaled the vapors. Poison Control centers list it as dangerous for children under 10 years. Do not diffuse it in any room your infant occupies, and do not apply it to your skin if you will be holding your baby. Breastfeeding mothers can use it in rooms completely separated from baby, but this is generally not worth the risk.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
