Cannabis Edibles / THC

Edibles and other THC products should be avoided while breastfeeding. THC from any source — eaten, vaped, or smoked — concentrates in breast milk and poses developmental risks to your baby.

THC from edibles is absorbed into the bloodstream and reaches breast milk regardless of the route of administration (smoking, edibles, vaping, tinctures). The concentration in breast milk is 8 times that in maternal plasma. Edibles eliminate the secondhand smoke risk to the baby, but the THC transfer through milk remains the same or greater (edibles have higher bioavailability in some cases). Avoid all THC products while breastfeeding.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
