Echinacea Tea
Echinacea is one of the most popular herbal immune boosters, and it's generally considered likely safe for short-term use during breastfeeding. It hasn't been extensively studied in nursing mothers, but available data doesn't show significant concerns with short courses.
Short-term use (up to 1–2 weeks) generally considered acceptable; avoid prolonged daily supplementation
A prospective cohort study found no significant difference in adverse outcomes between breastfeeding mothers who took echinacea during the first trimester and those who didn't. For breastfeeding specifically, LactMed notes that occasional, short-term use for immune support is likely acceptable. Prolonged daily use or high-dose supplementation has less safety backing. If you're fighting a cold and want to reach for echinacea tea, a week of use is unlikely to be a concern; taking it continuously as a preventive supplement is less well-supported.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
