Delta-8 THC

Delta-8 THC should be avoided while breastfeeding, just like delta-9 THC. It's a psychoactive cannabinoid that is structurally similar to regular THC and shares the same fat-soluble properties that cause accumulation in breast milk. Delta-8 products are also poorly regulated and may contain contaminants from the chemical conversion process used to produce them.

Delta-8 THC is typically manufactured by chemically converting CBD (from hemp) using acids and solvents. The resulting products often contain byproducts and contaminants that are not present in natural cannabis. The FDA has issued warnings about delta-8 products. From a breastfeeding perspective, delta-8 THC is lipophilic (fat-soluble) like delta-9 THC and would be expected to concentrate in breast milk similarly. The additional concern of manufacturing contaminants makes these products especially risky during breastfeeding.
