COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and recommended while breastfeeding. Studies have shown that antibodies generated after COVID vaccination do transfer into breast milk — providing your baby with some protective benefit. The mRNA in vaccines is rapidly broken down and does not transfer into breast milk.

Multiple studies have confirmed that COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are compatible with breastfeeding. The mRNA in the vaccine is fragile, degraded in the injection site and blood, and does not reach breast milk. IgA and IgG antibodies generated by the vaccination do appear in breast milk and may offer protection to the nursing infant. The CDC, ACOG, and AAP all recommend COVID vaccination for breastfeeding mothers.
