Cooking Wine
Cooking wine and alcohol used in cooking is generally fine while breastfeeding. Most alcohol evaporates during cooking, and the small amount that remains in a serving of food is negligible — far less than a standard drink.
No specific limit for food cooked with wine; desserts with uncooked alcohol deserve more attention
Alcohol burns off during cooking, though not entirely. The amount remaining depends on cooking time and method: a flambéed dish retains about 75% of alcohol, while a dish simmered for over an hour retains only about 5%. A serving of beef bourguignon or wine-braised chicken is unlikely to contain enough alcohol to affect breast milk meaningfully. Alcohol content in desserts varies more (tiramisu, rum cake) — see those entries. Using cooking wine in everyday cooking is safe.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
