Choline

Choline is an underappreciated but critical nutrient for your baby's brain development that passes richly into breast milk. Most prenatal vitamins don't contain enough.

The adequate intake for choline during breastfeeding is 550mg/day — higher than during pregnancy. Breast milk is naturally rich in choline, and maternal intake matters. Eggs are the best dietary source. Many prenatal vitamins contain less than 55mg of choline, leaving a large gap. Choline supplements are safe and important for this reason.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
