Chocolate
Chocolate is safe to enjoy in moderation while breastfeeding! It contains a small amount of caffeine and theobromine, but regular portions are completely fine for most babies.
Myth: Chocolate is often blamed for infant fussiness, but research doesn't support this. The amounts of caffeine and theobromine in typical servings are too small to affect most babies.
A standard serving of chocolate contains far less caffeine than a cup of coffee. Dark chocolate has more caffeine than milk chocolate, but even a few squares of dark chocolate is well within the safe range. If you're already at your caffeine limit for the day, factor chocolate in — but for most moms, enjoying chocolate in normal amounts is perfectly fine.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
