Chocolate Mousse

Chocolate mousse is safe while breastfeeding! It contains a small amount of caffeine from the chocolate, but a standard portion is well within a reasonable range.

Chocolate mousse is made from dark or milk chocolate, eggs, cream, and sugar. The chocolate contributes some caffeine — roughly 5-20mg per serving depending on the chocolate used. This is far below the 300mg daily limit. Traditional recipes use raw eggs, but since foodborne pathogens don't pass through breast milk, this isn't a concern while nursing.
