Champagne
Champagne and sparkling wines typically have similar ABV to still wines (11–13%), so the same one-drink, 2-hour-wait rule applies. Bubbles don't affect how alcohol is processed in your body. Toast away — just time it after a feed.
1 standard drink (5oz at ~12% ABV); wait 2+ hours before nursing; carbonation speeds absorption slightly
Sparkling wine gets absorbed slightly faster because carbonation speeds gastric emptying, meaning peak blood alcohol may come a bit sooner (20–30 minutes). This doesn't change the overall clearance timeline significantly — it still takes about 2 hours to clear one drink from your system. A 5oz glass of 12% prosecco or champagne is one standard drink, same as any wine. If you're at a celebration and having multiple glasses, account for each drink separately.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
