Chamomile Tea
Chamomile is one of the most popular herbal teas for relaxation, but it's worth a note of caution while breastfeeding. It's generally considered safe in moderate amounts, but high doses haven't been well-studied in nursing mothers. An occasional cup to wind down is likely fine.
Moderate use; 1–2 cups occasionally; avoid large daily quantities
Chamomile is in the Asteraceae (daisy) family. If you're allergic to ragweed, chrysanthemums, or daisies, you may also react to chamomile — and that reaction could theoretically affect your baby through your milk. Additionally, chamomile has mild sedative and uterine-relaxant properties that, in very large quantities, could theoretically have effects on a nursing infant. One or two cups occasionally is the general guidance; daily multiple cups is where caution applies.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
