Cephalexin (Keflex)

Cephalexin (Keflex) is safe during breastfeeding and commonly used for skin, wound, and urinary infections postpartum. Consult your healthcare provider.

Cephalexin is a first-generation cephalosporin that transfers into breast milk in small amounts. It's considered compatible with breastfeeding by the AAP and Infant Risk Center. Often used for postpartum wound infections or mastitis. Monitor infant for diarrhea. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy is about 1–2% — a history of penicillin allergy does not automatically contraindicate cephalosporins.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
