Carnivore Diet
The carnivore diet — eating only animal products — is a significant concern while breastfeeding due to the risk of nutritional deficiencies. Eliminating all fruits, vegetables, and grains removes important sources of fiber, vitamin C, folate, and phytonutrients that support both your health and milk quality.
Breastfeeding requires a broad spectrum of micronutrients. While animal products provide excellent protein, B12, iron, and zinc, a strict carnivore diet eliminates fiber entirely and severely limits vitamin C, folate, certain antioxidants, and prebiotics that feed beneficial gut bacteria. The lack of carbohydrates also raises the same lactational ketoacidosis risk seen with keto diets. If you choose this approach, work closely with a registered dietitian and consider targeted supplementation.
Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
