Broccoli

Broccoli does NOT make your baby gassy! This is one of the most persistent breastfeeding myths. Gas-causing carbohydrates in broccoli stay in your gut — they don't travel into your milk.

Myth: The gas-causing compounds in broccoli, cabbage, and other vegetables do NOT pass through breast milk. Your baby's gas is coming from somewhere else — usually air swallowing or their own developing digestive system.

Gas from broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables is caused by carbohydrates that are fermented by gut bacteria. These carbohydrates are too large to pass into breast milk. Only small molecules like water, fat, and some vitamins and minerals transfer into milk. Your baby can't get gas from what you eat. Broccoli is incredibly nutritious and you should absolutely keep eating it.

Always confirm with your doctor or lactation consultant before making dietary changes while breastfeeding.
